Criminal Trap

For as long as bank robbers have existed, people have been looking for ways to stop them. You can try to make a bank so secure that nobody will ever attempt to rob it, or look for ways to track them down and apprehend them afterwards. However, the best option is to catch them in the act, and prevent them from making their escape.

One device which does this is the patented Criminal Trap.

As you can see from the diagram, all you need to do is to politely ask the thief to stand still and not look up, maneuver the trap into position, and drop it on him. The trap is, of course, bullet-proof, so he (or she) will be safely contained until the police arrive.

There's another horrendously complicated looking one described in the patent for a Criminal Arresting Assembly, which also restrains the waist and ankles of the criminal.

In both cases, it's not clear what would happen if the robber had an accomplice.
