How to Get a Free Email Address

Your Internet Service Provider

If you have your own internet connection, then your Internet Service Provider (ISP) will usually provide one or more free email addresses as part of your package. The specific details (how many email addresses, how much storage capacity, whether they only provide a web interface or also allow you to access your email through programs such as Microsoft Outlook and Outlook Express etc.) obviously depend on your particular ISP, of which there are far too many to discuss here.

One particular limitation that you should consider before following this approach is what happens if you change your ISP. Typically, if you change to a new internet provider, your email address with your old provider will no longer be valid, so you'll have to change it. Notifying everyone that you communicate with of your new address can be a tedious and error-prone process (it's easy to miss someone!), so if this is likely to be an issue for you, you may be better off using an email provider other than your ISP.
