How to Add a New Email Account

Open Windows Live Mail.

Select "Add an e-mail account".

Enter your email address, password, and the display name that you want (the name that will be displayed along with your email address in emails that you send). Make sure that the "Remember password" box is checked, so that you don't have to re-enter your password. Click "Next", and then on the next screen click "Finish".

The newly-added email account should then appear in the folder pane, allowing you to click on and view the inbox (received email) for that account.

Adding the Hotmail account above was relatively straightforward. Because both the email service and the email client are provided by Microsoft, Windows Live Mail client already knows the relevant information for connecting to a Hotmail account. If you're using a different email provider, you need to enter a little more information.

In the second example below, we're adding another account which is an email address which is associated with this website. After entering the email address, password and display name, we get the following form to fill in.

The data that needs to be entered here (the server type, incoming server, outgoing server, port numbers if they're non-standard, login ID (if it's different from the email address, whether authentication or secure connections are required) will have been provided by your email provider when you set up the email account.

After doing this, and clicking "Finish" on the next window, you can see both accounts in the folder pane, and can switch from one to another by clicking on the relevant inbox.
